Sharing Precious Memories and fighting isolation during Coronavirus
Jimmy O’Donnell has always been well received in his sensory reminiscence sessions in many Lancashire care settings. But in the light of Covid-19 and the isolation caused by the lockdown of care homes, he has had to work creatively to continue as normal a service as possible.
Jimmy praises key workers, especially our NHS heroes but also the unsung heroes, dedicated care staff who do amazing work supporting older people, including those living with dementia. This includes carers, relatives and friends supporting people in their own homes in the community, for whom life is particularly tough just now.
Jimmy is now branching out into producing weekly videos and sending them to homes, a kind of visual reminiscence session that can raise morale and improve wellbeing, touching the minds and hearts of people through their memories. He is also producing themed videos, starting with Sporting Memories. He is keen to tackle loneliness and social isolation during the crisis, so his videos are available to people in their own homes too, through devices, tablets, laptops, even mobile phones.
If you are a care home looking for digital entertainment or a family at home wondering how to keep spirits up in older relatives, this could be for you!
