Listening events across Lancashire and South Cumbria in 2023: Engaging with what matters to people in places and communities
Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board (ICB) has an ambition to put people at the centre of NHS services. The ICB has a statutory duty to involve people and communities in the work we do; to be aware of and act on the things that matter to local people about health services. System partners in each place have excellent engagement with people and communities- the listening event in Blackpool is an opportunity to build on that, focusing specifically on NHS services.
The ICB is establishing regular local events to allow communities and community representatives to be updated on NHS services, get involved, and to provide an opportunity for local people to have a say. Community representatives includes GP practice Patient Participation Group (PPG) members, patient voice group members, local Healthwatch representatives and voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise organisation representatives who often work with marginalised communities in our local areas.
We plan to run events in each of our places every three months in different locations. The events will last for two hours in accessible community settings (or online if more appropriate), and will offer an opportunity for dialogue between NHS leaders and community representatives and local people.
The events will have an executive director from the ICB or place-based director of health and care integration sharing information about the ICB, its work and priorities, with an opportunity for people to ask questions.
Facilitated breakout sessions will give people the chance to discuss what matters to them about the NHS services they use. Facilitators will have prompts to guide more discussion. We will conclude the event using voting technology to enable participants to evaluate the sessions.
Themes, issues and matters for action will be developed into a report for the ICB to respond to and share action taken. The report will be available to partners and stakeholders and will be shared with participants as part of our ongoing dialogue with communities.
We plan to hold a pilot event in Blackpool via MS Teams, Wednesday 25th January 2023 6-8pm – https://Blackpool-listening-event.eventbrite.co.uk
