Last week, we were able to host a remarkable event at the Arcade Club, where over 50 Ukrainian guests from the Fylde Coast came together to celebrate the power of connection and friendship. This heart warming gathering was made possible through funding from Lancashire County Council.
The Arcade Club, situated in the heart of our vibrant community, has always been a hub for gamers and enthusiasts. However, on this special day, it transformed into something more significant than just a place to play games. It became a symbol of unity, a meeting ground for Ukrainian young people and families to share a common love for fun.
Through funding and support, we made it possible for over 50 Ukrainian guests, many of whom were newcomers to the area, to experience an evening filled with laughter and delicious food. It’s incredible how the simple act of gathering can break down barriers and form lasting friendships.
Laughter, high-fives, and the shared excitement of playing games created a universal language of joy. Guests who had just met felt like old friends, and the atmosphere was brimming with positivity.
The importance of community support cannot be overstated in providing these moments of respite.
Alina Walker from the Blackpool Ukrainian Support Project arranged the event with support from Empowerment Charity, Healthwatch Blackpool, Arcade Club Blackpool, and Lancashire County Council. Viktoriia Murych from LCC was present at the event.
We hope to continue to provide children with access to spaces such as these, but also the emotional support to help them navigate the challenges they face.
